1, 2, 3, 4, Alan Browne! He’s always in Baluga…
We all know how the rest of the song goes and we can all look forward to another few years of singing this when we’re all back in stadiums because club captain Alan Browne has committed his future to Preston North End by signing a new 3.5-year contract, keeping him in Preston until the summer of 2024.
There is no doubt as well that this deal will represent a significant boost to the squad and Alex Neil himself. The gaffer has been quite open about how he wants Browney to be his “club captain for a long period of time” and that’s exactly what he’s got with this announcement.
Alan has been at the club since he was just a young boy, joining from Cork City at the age of 18 and when he signed, then manager Simon Grayson said of the youngster: “He’s got fantastic energy about him, is two-footed and is a goal-scoring midfielder – we think he has a bright future”. He wasn’t wrong about being a goal-scoring midfielder either as Alan has over 30 goals in over 270 appearances in his 7 years at the club so far.
Speaking to the official club website after penning his new deal, Alan said: “I have been here a long time and it is such a relief to get it over the line and have a few more years of me being at this fantastic club and hopefully we can make the next coming years successful.
“It is time to take the next step with my career. I had different opinions from different people and I wanted to gather as many opinions as I possibly could I felt that this was the right decision for me and hopefully I can progress with my own career, as well as with the football club.”
It’s also looking likely that this won’t be the end of the good news as North End are expected to announce the capture of one of the best midfielders in League One in recent seasons, Ben Whiteman.
